The Shield (FX network) has been one of televisions
most profane series for the last two seasons. AFA has addressed
the series via eletronic media, but AFA Journal has not made it
a focus because it is not on one of the four major networks.
However, The Shield continues to use more profanity and include
more nudity and sex. Bridgestone Tires has advertised on three recent
episodes (March 4, 11, 18). The March 4 episode included a fully
naked woman running across the grass to seek help from police officers.
She fell, her body turning with full frontal view to the camera
for a split second. The woman was injured and bloody, so the scene
was not titillating. In the episode teaser, two cops shoot others
in cold blood. Forty profanities included 11 G-- da--,
three Jesus Christ, three a--hole and four
sh--.
On March 11, the show had Detective Vic Mackey, series hero, and
one of his partners helping former assistant chief Gilroy escape
across the border to Mexico. Gilroy was on parole from time served
for crimes he committed. Again, the episode boasted 40 profanities,
including five G-- da-- and six Jesus.
The March 18 episode focuses on Mackey and his strike teams
plans to steal money from a mob operation. Mackeys estranged
wife comes to his hotel room and spots Mackeys sex partners
purse and shoes on the floor.
Another story line follows Julian, a former homosexual cop whose
ex-sexmate comes back to harass him. The 28 profanities included
three G-- da--, and two Jesus.

Boomtown P10
S V TV14
NBC, 3/16 This episode contained some very bloody violence,
beginning with an opening scene showing two cops who had been executed,
lying in puddles of blood under their heads. The final confrontation
with a crooked cop shows him being shot in the head, with blood
splattering all over the inside of a car windshield. The show also
contained some vulgar euphemisms for sexual intercourse.

Fox, 3/9 This new show presents another crude portrait of
an American family. Teenager Ted practices removing a bra from a
chair, obviously in preparation for one day scoring with older
girls. Later, an older woman tries to seduce Ted, saying,
Take me, Ted," while pulling down her bathing suit (shown
from behind) so he can see her breasts. While perched on the diving
board, Dad moons the members of the country club, and when Ted sees
it, he exclaims, Holy s--t! with the expletive deleted
but clearly visible upon his lips. The program was only given a
TVPG rating.

NBC, 3/13 This always crude sitcom added something that homosexual
activists have been demanding for a long time: the first romantic
male gay kiss between main character Will and another
love interest. Will walks into Barrys apartment and kisses
him on the lips.

CBS, 3/26 This episode relies heavily on sexual content,
despite the fact that CBS did not give the episode an S
rating. In one segment, the participants men and women
discuss the most unusual places where theyve had sex. That
leads into a discussion of group sex, with the women assuring the
men that women love three-way sexual encounters.
Another segment has all ten participants perched on tiny platforms
over the water. They are told anyone who will strip naked will be
rewarded with a plate of peanut butter and cookies. Two of the women
promptly strip and jump into the water as the men ogle and make
crude comments. (Private parts are blurred.)
