May 2017 – According to U.S. News and World Report’s 2017 ranking, America has fallen out of the top five best countries to live in. In 2016, the United States ranked fourth, but now it is seventh.

The survey measured 65 attributes grouped into 9 categories. While the US ranked top in the “power” rankings and third in “entrepreneurship,” contentious issues such as racial tensions, income inequality, political polarization, and gun deaths dropped its ranking.

The study crowned Canada as the best country for education, Sweden for green living, Thailand for entrepreneurship, and Italy for cultural influence.

Switzerland made the top of the 2017 list with Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan filling out the top five respectively.
