December 2019Mattel recently announced its launch of a gender inclusive doll line called Creatable World, promising to make doll play more inviting for all children, both boys and girls. Mattel describes Creatable World as “a doll line designed to keep labels out and invite everyone in. …”

There are six customizable doll kits, each including a doll, both long and short hairstyle options, and both male and female clothes and accessories. The child can create the doll to be male, female, or a mixture of both.

“Toys are a reflection of culture, and as the world continues to celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity, we felt it was time to create a doll line free of labels,” said Kim Culmone, senior vice president of Mattel Fashion Doll Design.

“Mattel has actually created a toy that glorifies gender inclusivity, destroys definitive gender lines, and ignores one’s biological sex,” said Monica Cole, director of AFA’s One Million Moms. “Mattel is following a trend to desensitize America by telling children they can be whatever gender they want to be.”
