August 2021The body of Christ has traditionally been considered a place of healing, peace, and closeness to Jesus Christ. However, Jesus promises in John 16:33 that His folllowers will have trouble and that He has overcome it all. Research by the Barna Group shows that one in five U.S. adults has experienced the effects of trauma in the past 10 years. As Jesus promised, Christians are not exempt.

Of the believers who reported trauma, 40% claim the cause was the death of a loved one. The second highest cause of trauma in the church (33% of the surveyed group) is a betrayal by a trusted individual. Other recorded causes of trauma include domestic violence (27%), physical abuse (22%), and sexual abuse (21%).
