September 2003 – As indications grow that same-sex marriage will soon be legal in one or more states in the U.S., pro-family groups are uniting in a drive to defend the sanctity of marriage.
The Massachusetts State Supreme Court is soon expected to legalize homosexual marriage, and the resulting legal struggle across the nation may doom traditional marriage.
Pro-family groups, including AFA, are preparing to kick off a new campaign with ìMarriage Protection Week,î scheduled for October 12-18. The purpose of the effort is to encourage churches to become involved in the battle to preserve traditional marriage.
Here are the suggested actions that AFA is asking supporters to take:
• Call, write or E-mail your U.S. representative and your two senators and tell them you are opposed to homosexual ìmarriageî and civil unions. Urge them to support the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would write into the Constitution the one man, one woman definition of marriage.
You can reach members of Congress by calling 1-202-224-3121. You can E-mail your representative at www.house.gov and your senators at www.senate.gov. You can write your representative at: House of Representatives, Washington, DC 20510; and senators at: U.S. Senate, Washington, DC 20510.
• Ask your pastor to join thousands of other pastors and preach about marriage on October 12. Ask your Sunday School class to participate in the suggested actions during Marriage Protection Week.
• Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper in support of marriage.
