July 2019 – A Canadian father is facing arrest if he calls his transgender teen by the child’s birth name, uses the “wrong” pronoun, or attempts to discourage the teen from taking hormone treatments. His 14-year-old daughter wants to transition to a boy. While she is supported by her mother, the father, known in court documents by the pseudonym “Clark,” believes she may regret the treatments when reaching adulthood.

British Columbia Justice Francesca V. Marzari issued an order forbidding Clark from “attempting to persuade” his daughter “to abandon treatment for gender dysphoria.” In addition, he was ordered not to use his child’s “birth name” or refer to her “as a girl or with female pronouns.” Furthermore, Clark has been ordered not to speak to the media about the case. The order states that “disobeying this order is a criminal offense,” and Justice Marzari indicated that violating the order can result in immediate arrest.
