July 2021 – According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the 2020 national birthrate fell to its lowest point in more than a century. With only 3.6 million babies born during 2020, the 4% drop was also the lowest birthrate recorded in over 50 years.
After the CDC reviewed more than 99% of all national birth certificates, it was also discovered that the birthrate dropped in every major ethnicity as well as in almost every age group. With the national birthrate now half of what it was in the 1960s, the U.S. is moving well away from having enough children to replace its current population.
