June 2014 –A recent study called The Bible in American Life found that more than half of all Bible readers use the King James Version.
While the NIV is the bestselling Bible translation, only 19% read it, compared to 55% for the KJV. The percentages of those who read other Bible translations are in single digits. A 2011 Lifeway study found that 62% of all Americans own a copy of the KJV.
Interestingly, 53% of KJV readers and 39% of NIV readers agreed that the Bible is the literal word of God, while 70% of NIV readers responded that they read the Bible weekly compared to 54% of KJV readers.
