November 2014 – Christianity is the only religion that has a significant presence in each continent of the world, according to Pew Research. Christians are evenly dispersed throughout most regions of the world with 26% living in Europe, 24% in Latin America and the Caribbean, and 24% in sub-Saharan Africa. Eleven countries around the world make up 50% of the world’s Christian population (map above).
In comparison, adherents of other religions are concentrated in relatively small geographical areas, often just one or two countries. Fifty-three percent of Muslims live in six countries of the world. Eighty-one percent of Jews live in two countries. Fifty percent of Buddhists live in China. Ninety-four percent of Hindus live in India.
