November 2014 – Q: I am convicted that I must begin to honor God with my investments, but I am new to this. Can you help me?

A: God calls us to put our money where our morals are. That means avoiding support for companies whose products, practices and policies  undermine His law.

So, let me make two suggestions: 1) If you invest in individual stocks, do your due diligence to make sure your individual stocks are biblically responsible; 2) Invest in Timothy Plan mutual funds. I am not endorsing Timothy Plan mutual funds because their returns are guaranteed to be the highest, but because Timothy Fund is one of only two truly biblically responsible mutual fund companies. The other one, unfortunately, has only two mutual funds and so diversity is limited.

Such an approach may seem counterintuitive in the world of investments, but it must be top priority for Christians. As Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, our call is to trust in “things not seen.” That’s an investment strategy guaranteed to reap the highest return.
