December 2015 – Ryan Breece pulled his daughter from an assignment at Loganville, Georgia’s Youth Middle School, which he said presented Islam, Christianity, and Judaism as religions that worship the same God. Other parents at the Atlanta suburban school validate Breece’s concerns, saying the lessons instruct students about Islam while almost entirely ignoring Christianity.
Similarly, a mother reported her seventh grader was taught about Islam at length in a world history class at Spring Hill Middle School in Spring Hill, Tennessee, and was instructed to write, “Allah is the only God.” An official from the school district promised that Christianity would eventually be presented when history teachers address the Age of Exploration in eighth grade. Students learn within that context how Christians persecuted other Christians in some countries in Western Europe.
In response to many parental concerns surfacing in recent years about Islamic-leaning teachings, snopes.com has investigated incidents in California public schools. While Snopes reports that some accounts have been “distorted and overstated,” the website verifies that “Islam's place in world history is presented within the context of that belief system’s glory days of scholarship and expansion of trade, while the information about Christianity generally only appears against a backdrop of Christians harming their neighbors and attempting to quash science.”
