May 2015 – A study produced by LifeWay Research and National Religious Broadcasters found that many Christians tune into Christian media, but when it comes to those outside the church, few people choose Christian media.
Over two-thirds of evangelicals, more than half of weekly church attenders, and about half of African Americans frequently listen to Christian radio or watch Christian television. However, 72% of Americans rarely or never listen to Christian radio, 67% rarely or never watch Christian TV, and 65% rarely or never read Christian books.
Christian movies and Internet resources fare somewhat better when it comes to unchurched audiences. Four in ten Americans have seen a Christian movie in the past year. And while only 25% say they watch or listen to online Christian programming every week, adding in the numbers of those who also go online (but less frequently), gives a total audience of over 60 million per week.
