June 2016 – According to a Pew Research survey, evangelical Protestants and members of historically black Protestant churches are more likely than mainline church members to discuss religion. Evangelicals say they talk about religion with people outside their family either every week (33%) or once or twice a month (22%).

It is unknown how many of those conversations are with other Christians. Although evangelicals are known for influencing others to embrace their religious beliefs, only 10% said they would “try to persuade the person to change their mind.” Most evangelical Protestants (70%) attempt to “understand the person’s beliefs and agree to disagree,” while 18% completely “avoid discussing religion with the person.”
