March 2016 – Parents Television Council (parentstv.org) gives parents encouraging tips to tackle the task of managing children’s media habits. A practical short list is compiled in a January commentary by Melissa Henson, PTC director of grassroots activism and advocacy. Henson’s helps for parents include:

▶ Watch, listen, or play with your kids.
▶ Cut back screen time on all devices.
▶ Make it count – allow only positive screen time.
▶ Support quality programming.
▶ Make your voice count – talk back to media marketers.

“It is the parents’ responsibility to help their children develop responsible media habits,” said AFA VP Ed Vitagliano. “The outcome is worth the effort, and PTC (parentstv.org) has a wealth of resources for families.”
