February 2017 – Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, is becoming the first U.S. college to build a National Rifle Association-approved firing range on campus.
Two years ago, the university began offering a concealed carry class. Len Stevens, spokesperson for LU, said, “We’ve had nearly 900 students go through the class. The present facility has been deemed antiquated and ill-suited for that number of students by university leadership.”
David Corry, LU’s general counsel, said the school is trying to make sure everyone feels safe.
“No one has to have a roommate with a gun in their room if they are uncomfortable with it,” he said. “Everyone in a room has to agree for concealed carry to be permitted for a dorm resident and a gun safe is installed in their room.”
