February 2017 – Alliance Defending Freedom has persuaded the state of Massachusetts to change course on forcing churches to accommodate transgendered people in their restrooms.
According to Maura Healey, state attorney general, the measure would have considered churches “places of public accommodation” where individuals cannot express ideas concerning “religious expression regarding biological sex and gender identity.”
ADF stated in its complaint the law forced churches to open changing rooms, shower facilities, restrooms, and other intimate areas to people based on their perceived gender identity and not their biological sex.
The case was dismissed when the state withdrew its demands.
