March 2017 – At the end of 2016, WalletHub, a personal finance company, dug into data from U.S. Census Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other national organizations to create a ranking of the 150 most populous U.S. cities according to seven vices.
WalletHub’s categories for identifying sinful behavior were anger and hatred, jealousy, excesses and vices, avarice, lust, vanity, and laziness.
While some of the factors WalletHub analyzed may not be directly linked to sin (for instance, the number of plastic surgeons per capita), they did include statistics such as violent crimes, teen births, and the use of a notorious online “dating” service for married people.
