March 2020Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas, has opened Chance’s Pie and Coffee Shop, overseen by its Belong disABILITY ministry. Manager of Belong, Todd Bruning, said the idea of the shop was a “vocational preparation program for adults with disabilities who are interested in a future in the work world.”

The shop was named after former church member Chance Urschel, who passed away from a neurological disorder in 2016.

“The greatest blessing might be the interaction that grows between customers and crew members,” said Bruning. “The confidence, pride, and joy with which our crew members perform their jobs are an inspiration to us all.”
