August 2021On May 17, a California District Court approved a lawsuit settlement on behalf of Harvest Rock Church and Harvest International Ministry against California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D). Under the settlement, the state may no longer impose discriminatory restrictions against churches and houses of worship. Newsom also must pay Liberty Counsel $1,350,000 to reimburse attorney’s fees and costs.

This comes after the U.S. Supreme Court had already reprimanded Newsom several times for harsh restrictions on churches and home Bible studies. Newsom is the first governor in the U.S. to experience a permanent injunction against him on behalf of houses of worship.

At press time, Newsom was under threat of being recalled as governor by a special ballot initiative.
