August 2021In early 2021 Parler, the popular free-speech social media platform acting as a viable competitor to Twitter, was attacked and taken down by tech giants in an obviously unified effort. In addition to searching for new servers, Parler responded by filing lawsuits against Amazon for breach of contract, defamation, and anticompetitive behavior.

After weeks of downtime, Parler announced in mid-February its official relaunch “built on sustainable, independent technology and not reliant on so-called ‘Big Tech’ for its operations.”

In a March 17 statement, the company announced it had finally returned to Apple’s App Store: “Millions of Parler and Apple customers may once again exercise their right to freely exchange ideas and opinions on social media, without viewpoint discrimination.”

At press time, Parler was still not available to Android users via Google Play.
