December 2021 – Facebook-owned, social media app Instagram has been popular for years. The target age group of users is 22 and younger, but the photo-sharing site has recently proven to be detrimental to young users.
After Facebook and Instagram refused to acknowledge the dangerous effects these sites have on individuals, researchers took matters into their own hands as they reviewed internal documents. The study revealed Instagram was aware of the damage it was causing but chose to do nothing about it. Instagram fed insecurities, worsened body opinions, and increased anxiety and depression in many.
Blaze News reported the study found that, “Among teens who reported suicidal thoughts, 13% of British users and 6% of American users traced the desire to kill themselves to Instagram.”
