April 2014 – According to a report from Fraser Institute, a free-market think tank, 41,838 Canadians became “medical tourists” in 2013 by seeking medical care outside their home borders. Nadeem Ismail, director of health policy studies at Fraser Institute, said, “Canadians may leave for a number of reasons including a lack of available resources or appropriate technology, a desire to return more quickly to their lives, to seek out superior quality care or perhaps to save their own lives or avoid the risk of disability. That a considerable number of Canadians traveled and paid to escape the well-known failings of the Canadian health care system speaks volumes about how well the system is working for them.”

Political conservatives have used this information to attack the Affordable Care Act, asking when Obamacare fails the people, where will Americans be able to turn?
