January 2015 – An October survey from Lifeway Research and Ligonier ministries found that 51% of evangelicals, 79% of Catholics, 76% of mainline Protestants and 67% of all Americans believe humans, by nature, are good.
“At the end of the day, I think most Americans really like a do-it-yourself approach to things of religion, to things of faith,” observed Lifeway Research president Ed Stetzer. He described the view that humans are good by nature as “outside of orthodoxy, and not just the evangelical tradition, but what we call the grand tradition.”
