January 2015 – Houston Mayor Annise Parker announced in late October that the city had withdrawn subpoenas issued to five pastors for their sermons and private communications regarding homosexuality and transgenderism.

The pastors had publicly opposed a new law allowing transgendered individuals to use opposite-gender restrooms. The ministers had gotten thousands of signatures to allow a referendum on the law, hoping to overturn it.

AFA sent out an Action Alert soon after the subpoenas were issued, encouraging supporters to contact Mayor Parker, who is a lesbian.

“We wanted our folks to let the mayor know that her anti-Christian bullying tactics and political activism based on her personal agenda had crossed the line,” said Randy Sharp, AFA director of special projects.
