January 2015 – In October, Gordon College officials clarified a misunderstanding over discourse between the college and the accrediting organization, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. News outlets had reported that the NEASC was pressuring Gordon College to revise its policy prohibiting sexual acts outside Christian marriage or lose its accreditation (See AFA Journal, 12/14).

Rick Sweeney, vice president of marketing and communications at Gordon College, said, “Contrary to recent media reports, Gordon’s accreditation is not in jeopardy, as its admission and employment policies have always been in full compliance with the NEASC Standards for Accreditation and with nondiscrimination employment law.”

Sweeney affirmed that neither the college’s accreditation status nor its policy on sexual behavior is at any risk of being changed.
