January 2015 – New AIDS/HIV cases in the U.S. decreased overall by about 6% from 2008-2012, but men having sex with men (MSM) accounted for 64% of new AIDS/HIV cases during that time, although homosexuals constitute only an estimated 2% of the population. While new AIDS/HIV infections associated with MSM have increased since 2008, new infections attributed to drug injections (IDU) or heterosexual sex have decreased.
