May 2017 – Although 24 states and Washington D.C. have no age limit on when an abortion can be performed, the outcome of survival of preterm babies in the U.S has become more positive, according to a recent study by Duke Health published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
About 36% of babies born at 22 to 24 weeks of pregnancy survived between 2008 and 2011, according to the study. In comparison, from 2000 through 2003, 30% of premature 22- to 24-week-old babies survived.
