July 2018 – In a recent article titled “21 Books you don’t have to read,” GQ magazine gave its readers permission to no longer read the Bible and 20 other literary classics. It calls the Bible “repetitive, self-contradictory, sententious, foolish, and even at times ill-intentioned.”
GQ said the Bible is “certainly not the finest thing that man has ever produced.” Considering Christians believe the Bible is the very words of God, it is no wonder that Christian leaders have spoken out against the irreverence of such an article. Hillsong pastor Brian Houston remarked that the magazine was simply showing its own irrelevance since “the Bible is way more hip than GQ.”
