Above, Ruiz was hospitalized after the 2016 attack.

July 2018 – The June 2016 Islamic terrorist attack at Pulse, an Orlando gay nightclub, left 49 people dead. Luis Javier Ruiz, who survived the onslaught, recently gave testimony in a Facebook post concerning the freedom he has found in Christ:

“Going through old pictures of the night of Pulse,” he recalled, “I remember my struggles of perversion, heavy drinking to drown out everything, and having promiscuous sex that led to HIV. My struggles were real! The enemy had its grip, and now God has taken me from that moment and has given me Christ Jesus.”

He later explained to the Independent Journal Review that while he continues to experience temptations, God is changing him through an ongoing process and is removing a variety of sexual perversions.

Ruiz’s Facebook post revealed the key to his resolve: “I know who I am, and I am not defined with who the enemy says I used to be – but who Christ Jesus says I am.”
