December 2019 – Surrounded by roughly 100 cheering families and lawmakers on August 8, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin (R) signed a new law banning abortions after an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detectable. Three additional pro-life bills were also signed at the ceremony.
“Government doesn’t give [life] to us, and government doesn’t have the right to take it away,” the governor said as he praised the state’s new protections for unborn babies and mothers. “This is a cause of great celebration. It’s celebrating the sanctity of human life.”
Predictably, two of the four laws are already being challenged by pro-abortion groups. The issue is “not that complicated,” said Bevin, who has a strong pro-life record.
“The issue, frankly, isn’t about faith. It’s about science, medicine, morality. It’s about who among us can justify taking an innocent life?”
