December 2020On October 14, AFA Journal had a remarkable special visitor, World War II veteran Bill Swinney, age 97, of Paige, Texas. In March, Swinney had written to AFA president Tim Wildmon saying, “I know of no other publication that covers the values I cherish as well as yours.”

The longtime AFAJ reader, Swinney, his wife Brenda, and son Scott shared during the staff’s morning devotions, toured AFA headquarters, and honored the AFAJ staff with a visit.

Swinney understands the importance of defending true American values. He was a gunner on a B-24 bomber in the 14th Army Air Corps in China.

As father of 7 and grandfather of 16, he also recognizes the value of family and the critical foundation of the biblical family model for American culture. Swinney continues to live an active and inspiring lifestyle.

“I get up every morning,” Swinney writes in his personal memoirs, “make a list of things to do, and view the dawning of a new day.”
