December 2020A Pew Research poll reveals that the majority of Americans fail to see the negative consequences of the breakdown in the family. Cohabitation, delaying marriage, divorce, single parenthood, same-sex marriage – the shifts over the last several decades have been substantial.

Yet, Pew indicates that only 16% see the profound changes in family structure in a negative light. And a whopping 45% believe it makes no difference at all.

Alex McFarland, Christian apologist and co-host of AFR’s Exploring the Word program, expressed concern for the indifference of the nation and the church concerning God’s design for human sexuality and relationships.

“Just because some people have ‘made it’ through life with little or no family structure doesn’t mean that the family’s unimportant,” he said. “People can survive without a nuclear family, people can survive without one of their limbs – but that’s not ideal.”
