December 2020For 11 years, the Cultural Research Center (CRC) of Arizona Christian University has conducted a series of surveys estimating how many American adults have a biblical worldview. Called the American Worldview Inventory 2020, its latest survey section, “Churches and Worldview,” was released on October 6 and noted a fundamentally post-Christian shift in Christian beliefs.

Using information from a nationally representative sample of 2,000 adults, CRC reported that 44% of American Christians believe the Bible is ambiguous in its teaching about abortion. Also, if abortion spares the mother from financial or emotional discomfort or causes hardship, 34% of Christians polled view abortion as morally acceptable.

“The irony of the reshaping of the spiritual landscape in America is that it represents a post-Christian Reformation driven by people seeking to retain a Christian identity,” said George Barna, CRC director of research. “Unfortunately, the theology of this reformation is being driven by American culture rather than biblical truth.”
