January-February 2020 – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report in October 2019 showing a dramatic rise in sexually transmitted diseases, some reaching record highs. The CDC discovered that from 2017 to 2018, cases of chlamydia totaled more than 1.7 million, the highest number of such cases the CDC has ever reported. Gonorrhea cases increased by 5% to a total of approximately 580,000, the highest number of such cases since 1991.
Peter Sprigg from the Family Research Council says the bigger picture is startling: All efforts to teach safe and moral sex have failed. Sprigg points out the message of the sexual revolution erroneously communicates “that we can have sex without consequences.”
Sprigg argues there is a free remedy to these consequences: Individual responsibility. “It was disappointing,” said Sprigg, “that the CDC did not even mention sexual risk avoidance or abstinence until marriage, and fidelity within marriage as being a behavioral solution.”
