October 2020As California continues to see a surge in coronavirus cases, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) ordered churches and some commercial businesses in more than 30 of the state’s 58 counties to close indefinitely.

Despite threats from county officials of “repercussions such as fines and even possible arrest” for reopening his church in defiance of the governor’s orders, well-known evangelical Pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church, has continued holding in-person services.

“We will obey God rather than men,” MacArthur said in a video released by his church July 31. “We’re going to be faithful to the Lord, and we’re going to leave the results to Him. … [W]e will be obedient and faithful to His Word. … Caesar is not our King; the Lord Jesus Christ is our king.”
