April 2021American Girl dolls, a Mattel Toys product, has introduced its Kira Bailey doll as the “2021 Girl of the Year.” According to AFA’s onemillionmoms.com (1MM), in the doll’s accompanying book titled Kira Down Under, Kira visits her two great-aunts in Australia. Kira explains that the two women married “after the law was changed to allow it.”

American Girl first announced the LGBTQ theme in a press release that also said their dolls are designed to “inspire children.”

“Within the first few pages of Chapter 1,” noted Monica Cole, 1MM director, “Kira Down Under makes sure no little girl misses the point by including an illustration of the two women walking down the aisle at their wedding.”
