June 2021 – After an ice storm blasted across the South in late February, many Texans were left without power and heat. But one furniture store owner, Jim McIngvale, also known as “Mattress Mack,” decided to transform his stores into shelters. With a surplus of mattresses, sofas, and warmth, McIngvale’s kindness helped shield hundreds from below freezing temps.
“Least we could do is open this furniture store to let people come into a warmer place,” McIngvale said. “Tough times never last, tough Texans do, and we’ll get through this also.”
