June 2021The student body president at Texas State University (TSU), Catching Valentinis-Dee, received death threats after he sided with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) (photo, above) for withdrawing the state mask mandate.

In a March 2 order, Gov. Abbott lifted the Texas mask mandate and “COVID-19-related limits for any business” in all areas without high hospitalizations. Valentinis-Dee suggested that TSU should cease penalties for students who go maskless on campus.

Student reactions were vicious, including a Tweet in which one student asked about assassinating a student body president, and another person doxed – publicized Valentinis-Dee’s personal contact information. The co-chair of Texas State Young Democratic Socialists of America declared, “If someone dies, it’s on you, Catching, forever.”
