March 2021 – The Florida Board of Education has passed a rule requiring sex trafficking education for each student in public schools. As the first state to adopt such a requirement, school districts will begin by incorporating age-appropriate lessons concerning sexual abuse and human trafficking.
Starting in kindergarten, students will learn the difference between a secret and a surprise, tactics often used by traffickers to groom victims. As the student matures, so will the lesson material. In high school, students will learn about real-life traps and schemes traffickers use.
