March 2021Transhood, a new HBO documentary, follows four transgender individuals, ages 4, 7, 12, and 15, across four years as the children “come to terms with their ‘transness.’” According to Dr. Andrew T. Walker, associate professor of Christian Ethics at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, the inappropriate film demonstrates a blatant dereliction of parental responsibility.

Sadly, one scene even features a “church” service in which a 4-year-old boy dressed in little girl clothes is brought to the front of the church by his mother and prompted to tell congregants he is a girl. After shyly doing so, the boy receives a flower from church leaders, and the entire congregation says, “May you be well, safe, and whole. We honor you exactly as you are.”

Walker also called the film a failure, saying it proves the exact opposite of its stated premise.

Matt Walsh and other Christian leaders describe the film as a painful look into the unbridled madness of parents openly brainwashing their children into making irreparable decisions at ages when they are incapable of doing so. Likewise, the American Psychological Association previously stated, “Transgender and gender-nonconforming youth may not be ready to make a decision about their ultimate gender.”
