March 2021On November 25, 2020, Coptic Christians in the Egyptian governorate of Minya were attacked by a mob of Muslim villagers. The reason for the attack? A Facebook post.

Rumors had spread among villagers that a Christian man had posted a comment on social media insulting Islam and the prophet Mohammad. The group of attackers used Molotov cocktails and stones in their attack on Christian-owned shops and homes. One elderly woman was hospitalized from burns resulting from the attacks.

The church of Abou Sefin soon became another target for the mob. The Christian congregation was in the midst of a celebration at the beginning of the Coptic fast when the attack began. Several homes were damaged in the attack, and a church van was burned.
