October 2021On July 16, the California 3rd District Court of Appeals ruled that a 2017 California law requiring nursing home workers to use the preferred pronouns of transgender residents is a violation of free speech rights. The 2017 law had opened the door for punishment of those who refuse to use preferred pronouns, reportedly threatening a year in jail or a $1,000 fine for violators of the law. The court’s new ruling to strike down the transgender-friendly regulation was a unanimous 3-0 decision.
