October 2021Once on the National Center on Sexual Exploitation’s (NCOSE) Dirty Dozen list, the social media app TikTok is now working toward better online child safety. NCOSE reported in July that the app would “automatically remove ‘violative content’ such as videos showing nudity or sexual activity or threatening minor safety.”

Using automated technology to remove graphic content, TikTok is setting the stage to encourage other Big Tech companies to follow suit. As with almost any social media site, there is still inappropriate material on TikTok. However, on this issue, the social media giant is helping stand against sexual exploitation.
