December 2014 – Americans are split over controversial political and social issues, according to Pew Research. For example, when questioned whether wedding-related businesses should be permitted to refuse services to homosexual clients, 47% say yes and 49% say no.

However, the percentage of those approving faith-based involvement in politics has increased from previous years. Specifically, 41% say there is too little expression of faith and prayer from political leaders, and 49% say churches and houses of worship should express views on social and political issues.

At the same time, 72% believe religion is losing influence in America, and 56% say that is a negative development. Fifty percent say homosexual behavior is sinful, up from 45% in 2013. Among Christians, 50% say evangelical Christians face a lot of discrimination, and 34% say it has become more difficult to be an evangelical Christian in the U.S.
