March 2014 – According to Movieguide, tracking box office receipts for movies over the past five years has revealed that films reflecting a Christian worldview are more successful than other films. The 2014 Report to the Entertainment Industry noted that films with a Christian worldview averaged $82.9 million at the box office, while movies with a non-Christian worldview averaged $21.8 million.

Movies with “redemptive” themes noted by Movieguide included The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Non-Christian films included Black Swan, Django Unchained and Brokeback Mountain.

Ted Baehr, founder of Movieguide, also pointed to the high ratings for TV programs with a strong faith influence, like The Bible and Duck Dynasty

“It pays to put Christian, faith-friendly content in blockbuster movies and television programs,” Baehr said, indicating that the movie industry has begun to notice that and act on it.
