March 2014 – For the first time since the question was raised by Gallup polls in 1977, clergy are rated below 50% for ethics and honesty. In a 2013 Gallup poll, Americans rated clergy at 47%. Previously in the history of the poll, clergy have always been among the highest ranked of the various careers mentioned, with their highest rating being 67% in 1985.

In the 2013 poll, nurses were at the top of the list with a rating of 82%; lobbyists, Congress members and car salespeople were at the bottom, each with a rating of less than 10%.
