September 2014 – Nigeria ranked number one for violence against Christians on the World Watch Top 10 Violence List. With demarcation of the country into the mainly Muslim north and the Christian south, most violence occurs in the north where Sharia law fuels jihadist activism against Christians.
Anti-Christian violence, as defined for the Top 10 Violence List, includes destruction of Christian churches and properties, beatings, abductions, rapes, arrests and forced marriages. The most violent countries ranked as follows:
1. Nigeria
2. Syria
3. Egypt
4. Central African Republic
5. Mexico
6. Pakistan
7. Colombia
8. India
9. Kenya
10. Iraq
In addition, 85% of Christians killed because of their faith were in Nigeria, Syria and the Central African Republic. Although Christian persecution in North Korea is known to be extreme, concrete data from the country is hard to obtain and was not included in the analysis.
