November 2016 – Barna, along with YouthWorks and Youth Specialties, published findings in September revealing that youth are highly involved in service and volunteer projects. At least once every few months, 68% of youth are doing volunteer work. The most common place for youth to volunteer is at church. And youth who attend church with parents are more likely (60%) to serve in the church than those who do not attend with parents (16%). Youth most commonly volunteer for:

▶ Church/ministry – 42%
▶ Feeding hungry/helping homeless – 35%
▶ Education – 31%
▶ Environment/cleanup -28%
▶ Animals – 20%
▶ Service trips – 18%
▶ Social advocacy/politics – 11%
▶ Medical/health care - 10%
