September 2016 – Media use is up this year by one hour per day, according to a Nielsen study. During the first three months of 2016, people spent an average of 10 hours and 39 minutes each day with smartphones, tablets, TV, radio, computers, and video games. In 2015, the amount of time spent was 9 hours and 39 minutes each day. Those numbers do not include texting, taking selfies, or talking on the phone.
While the additional daily hour of time spent in 2016 included 37 minutes of time on smartphones and 12 minutes on tablets, the use of other media did not drop in relation, indicating people are multitasking with their phones while continuing to use other types of media.
