November 2017 – According to a recent survey by MJM Entertainment Group, about one-third of the general public would be less likely to see a movie if they knew beforehand that the name of Jesus or God would be used inappropriately or that profanity would be used in the film. Nine out of ten evangelicals might avoid watching the film. More Americans say that use of the name of Jesus or God in vain would dissuade them from watching a film more than other forms of profanity.
On the other hand, this survey may be debated in light of the success of profanity-filled movies such as Deadpool, one of the most successful R-rated movies ever released, with a significant $746 million take at the box office.
